Foundation gives $1,000 to Project Grad 2011

April 4th, 2011

The Kapaa High School Foundation recently presented a check for $1,000. to the Kapaa High School 2011 Project Grad committee.  Project Grad is an overnight party for seniors held immediately after the graduation ceremony.  The objective is to get as many senior classmates to participate as possible and ensure them a safe environment to party with their friends before they head off  to their chosen paths.

For the volunteers organizing this event, one of the challenges is to raise as much funds as possible so the out of pocket expense for the participants is minimal.

The donation to Project Grad and other programs at Kapaa High School is made possible by the generous donation made by alumni, friends, and business from all over.

Alumni Homecoming Reunion 2010

January 10th, 2011

The Kapaa High School Foundation hosted an Alumni Homecoming reunion on  October 15-16, 2010 with more than 200 alumni and spoused in attendance. Their schedule included attending the homecoming assembly at the Kapaa High School gym and a pupu party at Wailua Houselots Park the night before the game.  There was a luau ath the Smith’s Tropical Paradise pavilion  after the game.

Co-chaired by Art Fujita and Bob Kubota, the event was originally planned as a Nifty Fifties Reunion for alumni who graduated in the 1950′s but due to increased interest, it was opened to all alumni.
According to Fujita, the alumni was very impressed by the warm welcome reception they received at the school by the students and staff.  The game was exciting and the luau was fabulous.

Due to the generous  donations made by the alumni the event raised $9,737.00.  The money will be used in 2011 to fund grants for students heading off to college, senior projects, the Athletic Department, improvements at the school, and Project Grad(an overnight non-alchoholic party on graduation night).

Fujita and Kubota would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who attended and supported the event by cooking and donating their time and resources.
