The UNIFY Project 2015Kapaa High School Foundation  awarded $1350 to the Kapaa High Chapter of Project Unify. The money will be used to offset cost of printing tee shirts for their “Spread the Word to End the Word ” campaign.  This campaign is an ongoing effort by Special Olympics and their supporters to raise the awareness of the dehumanizing and hurtful effects of the word”retarded” when used to describe someone with an intellectual disability, and encourage people to pledge never to use the R word.

Project Unify is an education and sports-based program  of Special Olympics created to engage young people to  play and work together in a respectful and accepting environment.   Their mission is to provide year round sports training and competition to develop physical fitness and provide incentives for personal growth.
