This year, the Kapaa High School Foundation awarded student grants of $1,000 each to Dustin Valdez, Angela Mones and Mark Bonilla. The grants will help these students in their pursuit of a higher education. Dustin Valdez will be pursuing a career in Environmental Science, an important and highly relevant field. Angela Mones has a goal of becoming an educator, a career choice that runs in her family. Mark Bonilla is set on becoming a health care professional. We look forward to hearing of their future successes.

The Foundation’s donation to Project Graduation 2009 helped to provide the buses used to shuttle graduating students to their group celebration. The buses, which were provided free of charge in previous years, came at cost in 2009. Without help from the Foundation, the unanticipated expense would have strained the program’s budget and resources, and potentially derailed an event designed to keep kids off the roads, and promote a safe, drug-and-alcohol-free night of celebration.
