At the final Board meeting for 2013 held on November 20th, the Foundation awarded grants to four Kapaa High School groups that requested assistance for their programs.
The girls softball program received $1500 to help fund a new batting cage and new softball bats. Coaches Scott and Aulani Kaui along with some of the players were on hand to thank the Foundation for the support.Coach Bryan Aiwohi of the Boys Baseball program came to the meeting to thank the Foundation and to accept $500 for new batting helmets, bats, and dimple balls for the pitching machine.
The Track and Field program got $800 to purchase equipment like new discus, shot puts, batons, etc. The request was made by Rob Kubota on behalf of Coach Ron Velasco.
Running Start- Math 103 is a new program at Kapaa High campus that will allow students to get college credits for by signing up for this math class. Instructors Ms. Fawn Perry, Ms. Kathryn Baily, and Ms. Gigi Drent, assitant math professor at Kauai Community College, were present to accept $3700 from the Foundation to help subsidize the tuition for this college class. The students must get a passing grade of C or better to get reimbursed for the expense.
Athletic Director Greg Gonsalves was on hand to receive $1500 from the Foundation to help with the Athletic Program at the school.
After the presentations and discussions on next year, a fabulous dinner was provided by the ladies of the Board. A perfect way to end the last meeting of the year!
