Foundation gives $1,000 to Kapaa High Robotics

Physics teacher and Robotics coach Jim Cox accepts a check of $1,000 from Foundation President Art Fujita

At the November board meeting, the Kapaa High Foundation presented a check of $1,000 to Kapaa High Robotics coach Jim Cox.

Mr. C ox, our Physics teacher, volunteers his time coaching the Kapaa High Robotics Team. He also helps organize the island wide Robotics competition where competing teams build their own robots that have to perform predetermined tasks.

An interesting aspect of the Robotics teams on Kauai, is that, although they are competing, their display of sportsmanship is even more amazing and heartwarming. According to Mr. Cox, the students in the Robotics program display a lot of respect and aloha to the opposing teams. During competitive events, it is not uncommon for opposing teams to help each other with spare parts and advice on how to fix their malfunctioning robots.

The Robotics program at Kapaa High School has helped a lot of students in deciding their educational goals and possible career paths.

Foundation gives $2,100 to Athletic Department

Athletic Director Greg Gonsalves receives a check of $2,100 from Foundation President Art Fujita

Upon receiving a check from the Kapaa High School Foundation, Athletic Director Greg Gonsalves expressed his appreciation for the support the school has received from the Foundation throughout the years. “The money will be used primarily to purchase equipment for the athletes,” said Gonsalves.

The Foundation has always supported the athletes of Kapaa High with high hopes that their participation in competitive sports will help them build good character, acquire useful life skills, and provide good memories of time they spent with their coaches and teammates.

Foundation Gives $1,400 to Support School Activities

Vice Principal Todd Harrison accepted a check of $1,400 in behalf of Kapaa High School from the Kapaa High School Foundation at the last board of directors meeting held in November. The money will be used for school activities and programs that the school administration would like to support. Despite the DOE budget cuts handed down from the State, a lot of our teachers continue to use their personal funds to provide for the needs of their students. This grant was given to show support of the school and recognize their needs.

Graphic Arts Class Receive $1,000 From Foundation

The Graphic Arts Class of Chanelle Quinones received a check for $1,000 to purchase a dryer for their shirt printing projects. As one of their service project, the students design and print shirts for the Senior Project. The shirt drying machine will enable the process to be twice as fast. According to Ms. Quinones, the students are passionate about their design and printing projects and are proud of what they they create

Kapaa Wins 2011 KIF Football Championship

The Kapaa High Warriors won the 2011 KIF Football title in a close championship game before a packed Vidinha Stadium on November 7, 2011. Under the coaching of Kelii Morgado, the Warriors were able to beat a strong Waimea team that had beaten them once early in the season. Kapaa kicked a 27 yard field goal with 9 seconds in the game to break a 14-14 tie and lift the Warriors to their first KIF title in 22 years. Final score; Kapaa 17 Waimea 14

The Warriors continued their incredible season 5 days later at Vidinha Stadium with a 7-0 victory over Pearl City in the quarterfinal game of the State Tournament. In a defensive battle, Kapaa was able to shut down a team that averaged 31 points per game during the regular season.

The win over Pearl City put Kapaa in the Semifinal game against #1 ranked 4-time defending Champions Iolani. Although the Warriors were ahead 13-3 at the half, they fell short and lost 17-13. A huge crowd at the Iolani field gave the Kapaa Warriors a standing ovation for their valiant effort.

Congratulations to the Warrior Football team, the coaches, the parents and the supporters for a successful season!

Grove Farm Donates Pine Trees for Campus Beautification

Grove Farm recently donated thirty Norfolk Island pine trees to Kapaa High School. According to Principal Daniel Hamada the pine trees were planted with the help of students along Mailehuna Road and along the softball stadium currently under construction. The pine trees will help prevent erosion, provide a wind break and beautify our Campus. Mr Hamada expressed his gratitude for the generosity of Grove Farm.

Huge Turnout for Kapaa Campus Cleanup

More than a hundred supporters of Kapaa High School came out to clean up the school campus right before the start of the school year. Mahalo to all the volunteers who came out to beautify our campus.

Kapaa High Foundation receives $3,500 from Charity Walk

Art Fujita, the President of the Kapaa High School Foundation received a check for the amount of $3,500 from the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association at a recent presentation breakfast held at the Kauai Beach Resort.

The Hotel Industry Charity Walk is an annual fundraising event held simultaneously on all the the Hawaiian islands. On Kauai alone $137,000 was raised and donated to 40 non profit organizations throughout island.

This generous grant to the Kapaa High Foundation will benefit the Kapaa High School community by allowing us to give financial support to academic, athletic and social programs throughout the year.

Kapaa High Football Fundraiser Huge Success

Foundation President Art Fujita helping the football boys with their fundraiser

The Kapaa High School football team held their Barbeque Chicken fundraiser this past weekend at the Kapaa Hongwangi Church. It was truly a team effort as the entire team, the coaches, the players’ parents and guardians, and the Kapaa High Cheerleaders prepared and sold 1,500 whole chicken.

Art Fujita, the Kapaa High School Foundation President stated that this hugely successful funddraising event was made possible because of the willingness of the Kapaa Hongwangi Church to help the school. The Kapaa High School football team and the Kapaa High School Foundation would like to acknowledge and thank church members Clint Saiki, Clyde Takekuma, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Sunada, and Lane Sunada for their dedication and hard work coordinating the event.
